Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
Everyone is not on the same road. By walking with the Lord we will NOT be on the same road as those who DON’T walk with the Lord. Therefore, we should not be surprised when we are different.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
If we delight in the law of the Lord, and think about His law, we will know better how to follow. Delight is an interesting word. It means to “enjoy” or “take pleasure in”. We don’t dread His law. We don’t obey His law reluctantly, complaining and griping. We enjoy His law. And the result? We will grow and be strong, bear fruit for the kingdom of God, and what we do will prosper.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
Not so the wicked! The result of walking with the Lord, or NOT, are different. The wicked will NOT stand in the judgment… the righteous WILL. I don’t think this means that the wicked will not face judgment, but that after the judgment, they will not be left standing. We WILL still be standing, because we are covered by the Blood of the Lamb – our sins have been washed away.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
The LORD watches over the way of the righteous… I’m so glad because I NEED watching over.
